  1. Margarine for ghee 

It’s a misconception that margarine is a healthier option when it comes to butter-like spreads. Margarine is lower in saturated fat but as we know saturated fat isn’t as bad as it was once made out to be. Instead of using margarine on your toast, why not swap it out for ghee. Ghee is a whole food-derived nutrient-dense and is health-promoting from everything to your skin and your brain health. 

You’ll be able to find ghee in health food shops or you can even try to make your own! 

  1. Table salt for sea salt 

Swapping out your table salt for sea salt is one of the easiest swaps you can make and it comes with the most benefits. Salt has gotten a bad reputation in the past but it is also a vital mineral that helps promote healthy muscle and nerve function, regulate blood pressure, support thyroid function and boost metabolism. However not all salts are created equally, table salt is highly refined and devoid of minerals. The refining process destroys any existing minerals and are then added back in, including iodine which means it will not absorb it as well.

Swapping to sea salt or Himalayan sea salt comes with many benefits: 

  • Detoxifies the body by balancing pH
  • Relaxes muscles 
  • Helps maintain proper fluid balance and supports hydration. 
  1. Bottled salad dressing for homemade salad dressing 

Most shop-bought salad dressings are made with artificial flavours, refined sugars, excess sodium and preservatives, which is why we recommend making your own! Swapping this out is not only a healthy habit but it is also a lot more delicious. You can make so many different kinds, anything from lemon tahini dressing to creamy cashew caesar dressing. 

  1. Sports drinks for coconut water 

It is vital to stay hydrated during workouts but sports drinks that are filled with refined sugar and artificial flavours are not the answer! Many of us turn to sports drinks to replace electrolytes such as potassium and sodium that we lose during a workout, but a much healthier option is coconut water. Coconut water works in the same way a sports drink does, it hydrates the body and replenishes electrolytes.
